Dysfunctional Teams – Live!

It’s often said that the reason that the politics in academia and not for profit businesses are so vicious is that the stakes are so low.  The same can be said for the manoeuvrings in large corporations who see themselves operating in steady state environments (even if their customers and competitors don’t).

Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be able to watch what happens when people at the top of an organisation don’t necessarily share the same vision for the organisation, and cannot articulate the goals clearly to the rest of the stakeholders.  Yes – it’s party conference season again.

Without a clear vision and a coherent team view of what any organisation is trying to achieve, energy is wasted competing inside the organisation, energy which could be used to take on the opposition.  Employees throughout any business are acutely aware of any disharmony in direction and will quickly lose motivation without a common cause.

In our work  we occasionally encounter a top team that has lost its way, and sometimes find that what’s really needed is a clear articulation of the problem and a frank discussion about what needs to be done to put the trust and drive back into the team.
